Lukáš Pohánka

I am a Slovakian graphic designer who was introduced to the world of art through my love for graffiti art.I got into graffiti for the first time in elementary school and it has never ceased to fascinate me. However, I use graffiti art in my work in a different way than one would expect. I like to think of graffiti as a specific social artifact. I create unique assemblages from graffiti waste and transfers them into a new luxurious context.For example, the collection of canvases called 'Mummies' are mostly assemblages I created from graffiti waste transformed into a new form, which brings any style of street art into a new context.

 

 

 

 

 

 

My technique is also peculiar given the fact that I re-use residual materials and traces from other famous artists to create a completely new art piece, reminiscent of another time or culture. My work, however, remains clean, the street chaos and short life are limited by the picture frame as it combines a formal expression with the endangered street art.
